Week 3 - Experimentation - Creating form from an annimation of the Villa Savoye

Week 3
Using polylines and the extrude command I modeled the Villa Savoye in Cad by tracing the floor plans provided. I built it level by level then moved them into place on top of each other.

I saved the file as a dxf and imported it into 3d max.

Then I used the spline command to draw a path around underneath the first floor, in the doors up the ramp and out onto the roof deck.

This path was used to set the path of a camera creating an animated walk through of the model.

I saved 6 key frames from the animation using print screen then cropped them to size using photoshop.

I imported these images into Cad as raster images and traced them with polylines, using a different colour for the different building elements; columns, ramp, slab etc...

The path that the camera was set to to create the animation in max and the traced frames made in cad were both exported into rhino. Where the cad frames were approximated placed in the correct position along the path using orient and rotate 3d commands.

The loft command was then used to to create a 3d snake like form of each element.

The resulting form was then rendered using a spotlight to create a form which reminds me of ice cream.
